Vancouver all over in one day III

Jo - so it was Sunday and sunny and I decided to go out and see the city which I had decided I did not like - cause I think I might have been to quick to judge...
Representation - for some a dream for some a nightmare. This flag.

He who goes to high places falls deep - a German saying...

You might say city - I say ugly!

Same.

But then they do have interesting styles here. I like the round one and the Glass and the clever balcony's on the other ones.

Hm - me I call that an art-shot. Not very artsy but it transports a feeling... maybe?!

I like the street signs over the street. great thing if you are a driver and got to orientate yourself.

Big.

Fortress? Castle? Disneyland? (Just an hotel - but a nice one - obviously)

Can't get enough from the mountains. Like them best about Vancouver.

OMG - that might be me - or might not. Might have a serious issue with my camera...

That's how happiness can look like! My CC was in it! Yay!

In New Zealand a "tinny" is a small package of cannabis wrapped in tin foil, retailing for between NZ$20-25 (depending on the region). A building where such retailing takes place (commonly a superficially unremarkable home) is a "tinnie house". As an indicator to customers it is common-place to throw a pair of sneakers over the power-lines outside. Other drugs such as methamphetamine may be available as well.

Hm - that does not looks like modern Metropolis - looks like backwards Russia...

Vancouver all over in one day II

I wrote so nice comments and then the stupid Internet is gone and they weren't saved.
Ah, live can be so frustrating...

Fairytale mountains.

With bridge don't know why but seemed to be the thing to do at the time.

And again - oh how I love them.

Aaaand with forest in the front - c'mon we hadn't had that one yet ;)

A bit closer - on the North Vancouver side.

Jo - er hat sie alle voll im Blick - he see's 'em all it's just not the same in German...

$34.25 for the ride. I did not spent it even though the view is said to be special...

North Vancouver - taken from the Sea bus.

Vancouver Downtown taken from - the other side ;)

Ah - love the space - to look to be to feel - pretty isn't it?!
Lil Vancouver

Vancouver all over in one day I

Somehow do these bloody pictures do not show up in the bloody order I took them, whatever.
This is a sculpture by the native people which shall express Welcome. Yeah, sure mate!
Hard to see I admit but the right one is male and the left one female.
If you look closely you will see that too...
[Should have taken a shot sideways.]

I was shocked - absolutely shocked. A no-go area in a land of freedom - or so I thought. But then I do admit that the native people have not been treated all that kind in history and maybe they deserve their very own space. Of course I went behind that sign anyway.
Wanted to take the pic's below.

Isn't it beautiful even gorgeous? This silver church...

With the snow toped mountains in the backdrop. Could not take good pics though cause I was somewhat in a hurry - worried I might get towed away for being disrespectful...

Indigenous woodwork. In a park. For everyone to take pictures. :)

A sculpture on hmmm... Street. Doesn't matter. Close to the harbour anyway. It kind of represents a Totem pole in contemporary art I think...

Oh man, isn't he cool? Another sneaked picture. A moment ago the posture was even better but one does not want to be to obvious now do we?

Hahaha! Kind of Russian puppet building style I would say! ;)

Aaaaaaand here he is. The prove. The prove Lady's and Gents that they exist. Even in Vancouver! What I am talking about? Palm trees of course?!

Shall I stay or shall I go?

Kinda stupid question to ask since I already booked my flight to Banff. But man I am so not settled! What to do is the question. But then I am sitting around doing nothing which is not going to help is it now?! ;)

I think I still can always go home if things turn out bad. Which is a great thing. Like not being stuck but having a home. But what scares me is - who is saying it is going to be better there. Definitely not economically!

Argh!

VII. DAY

And time goes by…
I am already 7 days in Vancouver/ Canada. Unbelievable when I think about it.
The first days where so exciting and sooo long. So much happened and had to be done. The pace has slowed down fortunately. Now live seems to flow past me. But being ill and not fully alert might add to that feeling.
Reading a Mail from my Mom put things into place again. It is great to be here for however long or not. I will be going home around this time next year at the latest and then the days of my looong travels will be over and never come again. Not that I will regret that I think. Put this is an opportunity which will never arise again even though one keeps telling oneself otherwise.
So I might set myself up I might not. But I will try. Starting from tomorrow. Hahaha ;)

By the way:
It is Tuesday.
It is grey again.
It is raining again.
Who cares?

Monday 23 March 2009

Schnueff Schnueff Schnueff!!!

Today is Monday again.
It is grey again.
It rains again.

I gotta do my Resume and get my applications started. Decided to stay inside anyway to give my health the chance to recover a bit. But maybe it will get worst before it gets better again...

Sunny Saturday!

Saturday! Yay! The first sunny day since I arrived. Decided to take the day off and to enjoy. The sun and everybody are out and enjoy Stanly-Park. I join the crowd and walk the 8km seaside walk around it. Only now do I truly realize, that I am in Canada. Finally after all that time.
A plaque near the rock (pictured) claims that it is "Skalsh the unselfish," who was transformed by "Q'uas the transformer" as a reward for unselfishness. Named unselfishness in this case was that Skalsh asked for a good future for his village instead for something just for himself. The Rock shall be a reminder for all of us to think of the greater good and not just ourselves.

A bridge. But what for one - Wow!

With the mountain in the background.

The other side of Vancouver...

The mountains, the sea, the rockconstruction. It has actually a name and it's function is to serve as a landmark and to greet travellers.

A squirrel. Isn't it cute and fluffy and brow and cute and oh I would love to cuddle it!

Flensburger Foerde oder nicht Flensburger Foerde, dass ist hier die Frage!!!

The yellow stuff on the right in the picture is sulphur I have been told. It gets send to Japan and other Asian countries and they use it for production and as fertilizer...

And here they are - my first Totem poles. OMG I am in the land of the native Indians. A childhood dream come true...

The eagle represents the kingdom of air, the whale the lordship of the sea, the wolf the genius of land and the frog a link between the land and the sea.

Sunny Sunday too!

Sunday and it is similar gorgeous as yesterday. While I went around the park along the seaside walk yesterday I decided to go on top the Clive today and then to cut through the park to get back.
Postcard perfect! ;)

Majesty is what comes to mind. It took my breath away the first time I saw it.

The wood looks soft like butter and feels like silk. So smooths. Incredible.

The walk around the Park. It is the view from the walk not the walk itself that drives you to go on and on and on.

There he is again. The to me still unknown Mountain.

Spring is on it's way. A good thing to know.

My first eagle! A white headed eagle in Canada! A magical moment!

A ray of sunlight caught in the Forrest.

Romeo, oh Romeo where are you? Hurry up will you?!

The trees look like they could house fairies. :)

Imagine living in the Penthouse and still have your very own tree on the terrace...
I bet it turns bright red in Autumn! ;)

The Canadian flag is everywhere! EVERYWHERE! Not only on every Canadian travellers backpack.

Davie - the street I gotta go up towards the hostel I am staying in.

Was ist zu sehen? Ein Waschbaer-Hintern!!! Ein Waschbaeren-paerchen im hellen Tageslicht! Mitten im Park! Wow - Fruehling bingt auch all die Tierchen raus!

Mother nature... Or the human dirty mind. :0) But I had to have a photo of this one. Hahaha
